Why Hire a Wedding Planner?

Why Hire a Wedding Planner?

Lots of different people hire wedding planners for lots of different reasons.  Here’s a round up of some of the more common ones I come across.

1.  You live out of town

Living in a different city or country can pose a challenge when planning your wedding.  Having a local wedding planner means you get expert advice as to the best suppliers to use, and you have someone local you can refer questions to along the way.

2.  You are busy!

Whether that’s working full time, raising a family, running a business, or just, you know, life.  People are busy and planning a wedding can take over 200 hours.  Some people love the time and effort it takes, and some just don’t want the added hassle.  Us wedding planners thrive on that kind of thing!

3.  You don’t like saying no

Are your family or friends overly opinionated?  Not sure how to say no to their ideas?  Hire a wedding planner so you can use us as the scapegoat.  Often I’ve said to brides ‘just blame me’.  Or maybe it’s a vendor you’ve decided you don’t want to use but you don’t want to have to tell them.  I’m happy to be that middle person who runs interference and keeps the peace.  It’s all part of the job!

4.  It’s all a big overwhelming or mundane

This can go one of two ways – either there’s so much to do that you don’t know where to start, what to do when and are just generally overwhelmed by the whole thing.  Or you know what needs to be done, you just don’t want to do the ‘boring’ bits like getting quotes and eliminating suppliers that aren’t available on your date.  Sometimes a wedding planner is more like a Personal Assistant specifically for your wedding.  We do all the jobs that you don’t want to do!

5.  You don’t trust your family/friends to set things up

Family and friends are often very well meaning, but do they know the difference between the hurricane vases for the centerpieces and the cylinder vases for the jenga pieces for the guest book?  You wanted Aunty Sarah to sit next to your cousin Julie, but is your Mum going to change that on the day?  A wedding planner doesn’t need to be hired to do everything.  Sometimes all you want is someone to do all the set up, to an exceptionally high standard, and just the way YOU want it, not anyone else.

As you can see, there is no right or wrong reason to hire a wedding planner.  Our job, is to make your job easier (and that’s what planning a wedding is, another job!).
